- Wisdom tooth
surgery
The need
for the removal of impacted wisdom teeth confronts most young
men and women as they go through their mid to late teens and
early 20šs - the age of 'wisdom'. Crowding of other teeth with
changes in the occlusion, infection, swelling and pain are among
the reasons people consult Dr. Dierks for the removal of their
wisdom teeth before they can do significant damage to the jaw
structure and alignment of the teeth.
Dr. Dierks
wants his patients to understand the reason for the removal
of their wisdom teeth, the expected course of the surgery, aftercare,
and the occasional complications that can occur and how they
are managed. Most patients request to be asleep for the procedure,
and twilight anesthesia is safely administered by Dr. Dierks
and his associates at all of their oral surgery offices. Please
call 503-636-5679 to schedule a consultation appointment.
- Dental implants
Dental implants
represent the best way to replace missing teeth. As a highly
regarded maxillofacial and head & neck surgeon, Dr. Dierks can
also employ bone grafting techniques to add bone to areas where
dental disease or other problems have robbed the patient of
jaw structure. He is trained in the latest techniques of implant surgery
including CT scan planning of complex implant cases.
MAXILLOFACIAL
SURGERY
- Orthognathic
surgery
Orthognathic
surgery literally means 'straight jaws' and this term refers
to corrective surgery to align the foundation jaw structure
for patients whose jaws donšt align properly. Such problems
may be due to trauma, cleft palate or it can simply be a genetic
family trait. The malocclusion of these patients is such that
orthodontic treatment (braces) alone cannot fix the problem
without moving and realigning the jaw structure. This surgery
can sometimes be done at the Futures Outpatient Surgery Center,
a fully-accredited facility designed by Drs. Dierks and Potter
for this and other related purposes. This surgery also can involve
osteodistraction, whereby the jaw element to be moved is slowly
repositioned with a mechanical device.
- Cleft lip
and palate
Children
and adults with cleft lip and palate represent problems of both
a medical and dental nature that Dr. Dierks is uniquely qualified
